What's Skemata With You?
Skemata and their self-produced genre, 'Dome-Rock', were born in March 2007, on Long Island, NY. It all started in ninth grade when Ryan and Fish decided to start a band together after discovering their glaring chemistry within a few short jam seshes. They then asked childhood friend and previous band mate, James, to complete the three-piece. They all went to the same Middle School and had played in various punk bands, but now had joined forces. Ryan and Fish came up with the band name when they had "Schemata" as a vocab word in English class, and changing the 'ch" to a 'k' "to make it more punk rock". They began writing catchy riffs and melodies that were classic, with their own unique twist. The band quickly gained success in their hometown and played local shows often. After developing their sound, Skemata released their first album, 'No Pants, Just Penguin,' in March 2009, recorded at STD Studios.Skemata then released an EP titled '316' in 2010 which featured a slightly new taste of Dome-Rock. They were crowned winners of the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School Battle of the Bands in 2010. James parted ways with the band in the summer of 2010. Ryan and Fish then asked long time friend, and former band mate, Chris, to join Skemata. The three were quite familiar with each other's styles from frequently jamming covers, and playing shows together. When they began writing new material, the fusion of Dome-Rock was again expanding. They put out 'Plunger and Lightning' in July 2011, which set the mold for the Skemata we all know and love today. The trio would go on a tear across NY, playing multiple venues, including bars, halls and even hosting shows in backyards, basement, or wherever people wanted to throw down. These shows were often played with artists such as Surprise! Surprise!, The Leftovers, Space Harbor Highlight, RX Kings, Dream For Tomorrow, Bound For Change and Don't Date Robots.
Skemata eventually went dormant from roughly 2014-2019. In July of 2019, the trio fused back together, releasing a brand new single, 'Sir Bros A Lot', and announcing a brand new album in the works. Wasting no time, two more singles, 'Nights in Question', and 'The League', were released in consecutive months. They have come back strong, playing a few shows with great bands such as The High School Football Heroes, Tin Can Collective, The Ladrones, Charged For Battle, The Knottie Boys, Providence, and Pig Farm. They are currently in the studio.
Skemata has played all over Long Island and New York City, in venues such as The Knitting Factory, Amityville Music Hall, The Crazy Donkey, Vibe Lounge, The Homestead, Sinclair's Pub, The Vintage Lounge, Chances Pub, Buckley's, Kiely's, Ram's, M.B. Fitzpatrick's, Charles Ave Pub and other various bars.
